Choosing a Wedding Cake Topper

Choosing a Wedding Cake Topper
By Erik Armstrong

One of the major things we have to think about when organizing a special occasion or event is the cake. Many parties have been sullied by a poor cake, so make sure you don't make the same mistake. A part from anniversaries and weddings, other events which deserve a great cake are the likes of christening, birthdays, engagements etc.

Get a cake to harmonize with and compliment the event. Everyone likes to look at a cake, and you want to be overwhelmed with compliments not mumbles.

Look at cake designs that are in keeping with the type of occasion that you are organizing. The biggest choice will be in kids' birthday cakes, so let them help you choose one.

If your child likes a bit of this cake and a bit of that one etc; talk to a baker. He is professionally trained to create cake masterpieces and will come up with your child's dream cake.

Most elaborate wedding cakes have toppers and these now come in a great variety and not just the standard bride and groom. Find one that fits in with the colors and them of your wedding.

With the choice of materials that you can now have your toppers made in, your cake should be outstanding. The most popular materials these days are the likes of crystal, floral, polymer and porcelain. If you want to eat your cake topper, no problem, you can have an edible one.

Cake toppers are usually 5-8 inches in height and on a circular base engraved with the date and the names. As they are normally hand crafted they are exquisite.

Although 5-8 inches doesn't sound very high, take into consideration the height of your cake. Your topper should enhance your cake and be the finishing touch, not stand there like a carbuncle.
